This competition is open for young and talented pianist between the age of 10-17 years old. In this competition, the contestant will be going through a pre-screening from the DVD recording submitted with the application form, before chosen as the best 15 who can perform live at the semi final round in 5 big cities in Indonesia (Medan, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya and Jakarta). The committee will provide a list of the several recording facilities in five cities.

The best from each city will compete in the Final round in Jakarta and will get a chance to play on Steinway&Sons piano on May 2012. There will be a minimum of 2 finalist from each city. Plus, all of the finalists will get a Masterclass from Dr. Frank DeMeglio (to be confirmed). The Indonesia Steinway Youth Piano Competition 2012 event will be closed with a Gala Concert.

The winner will represent Indonesia and compete with other contestants from Taiwan, South Kore, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Singapore in The Asian-Pacific Steinway International Youth Piano Competition (Regional Final) in Singapore on July 2012 . The winner in Singapore will get the chance to participate in International Steinway Festival in Hamburg, Germany on September 2012.

REPERTOIRE

Pre-screening/DVD Audition  (maximum length of the piece: up to 18 minutes)
  • First movement of a sonata by Mozart / Beethoven / Haydn / Schubert
  • One free choice from the Romantic Period. No transcriptions / simplifications are allowed.
  • One free choice from the 20th Century

Semi-Final (maximum length of the piece: up to 10 minutes)
  • One original piece from Bach / Handel / Scarlatti with the minimum standard of Bach’s Two Part Invention
  • One free choice from the Romantic Period. No transcriptions / simplifications are allowed.

Final (maximum length of the piece: up to 18 minutes)
  • First movement of a sonata by Mozart / Beethoven / Haydn / Schubert
  • One free choice from the Romantic Period. No transcriptions / simplifications are allowed.
  • One free choice from the 20th Century

- The repertoire for DVD Audition  is the same as the Final Round
- All repertoires submitted should match the participants’ ability and mental powers of
   comprehension.
- All pieces must be played to the end without repetition.
- No transcriptions or simplifications allowed for all repertoire
- All Repertoire must be played from the memory
- Repertoire change / alteration (with no exception) is not allowed once it was submitted
- Please remind that the maximum length of the repertoires are STRICT, the committee will cut
   off the performance of the contestants once the duration is over


RULES

  • This competition is opened to all Indonesian citizen eligible pianists between 10-17 years old (date of birth  September 1, 1995 – August 31,2002)
  • Once selected, the best 2 finalists must fulfill the obligation to compete in the Jakarta's Final
  • If for any reason they cannot fulfill the duty to Jakarta, then the other will replace the position (according to the rank from the judges result)
  • The National Winner who will represent Indonesia in The Asia-Pacific International Youth Piano Competition in Singapore, the committee will provide the transportation and accommodation for 2(two) persons. And IF the contestant from Indonesia is the winner in Singapore, the committee will also provide the transportation and accommodation for 2 (two) person to Hamburg, Germany.
  • Once selected, the National winner must fulfill the obligation to compete in Singapore Round
  • If for any reason the first winner cannot fulfill the duty to Singapore, then the second winner will replace the position
  • Please remind that the maximum length of the repertoires are STRICT, the committee will cut off the performance of the contestants once the duration is over
  • The application fee (non-refundable) is  IDR 250.000 (for DVD audition)
  • If the contestants are name as the top 15 and will be perform live on each city's semi final, then they are required to pay another IDR 500.000 (non-refundable). The details will be informed to each contestants along with the top 15 announcement.


THE PRIZES

First Prize            : US $ 1.000 + trophy  +Master Class Session with Steinway Artist + ticket
                             & accommodation to Singapore for 2 person
Second Prize       : US $ 700 + trophy
Third Prize           : US $ 500 + trophy

All Contestants will get a “Certificate of Participation” from Steinway and Sons Indonesia
All Finalists will get a Certificate and Merchandise from Steinway and Sons Indonesia
