After hosting many online events throughout the pandemic, we were finally able to host a live onsite seminar at House of Piano, Darmawangsa Square. Based on our survey, most of the piano teachers in the club face the challenge of students who don’t practice, mostly because they are too busy already.
Dr. Nathania Karina shared that yes, even she has students who do not practice! It is a relatable issue for everyone in the profession. So what can we do about it? This session delved into various tips and tricks to motivate a student to practice, from a diverse library of repertoire, to being involved in a supportive and inspiring music making community (for example an orchestra, choir, or any ensemble). Since piano is a solitary instrument to learn, students often get lonely having to dedicate individual practice sessions daily. Being a part of an ensemble will show students that music is actually about community.
